Nothing like setting the right tone at the beginning of a
panel. Kenneth Cukier, a moderator for the Open Source, Open Society
plenary, launched into a short introduction/rant in which he attacked
(1) the desirability of using open source in all government applications
and (2) the notion that open source software is actually innovative (he
said that it mostly ``mimics'' what is already present in proprietary
software). This seemed like less of an introduction than a response to
questions that had not yet been asked.
